Following the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between Roads Agency Limpopo (RAL) and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in April 2015, the two institutions held their inception meeting on Friday, 15 May 2015 to determine the way forward. The meeting which agreed on an immediate action plan was attended by the representatives of both RAL and CSIR.
The collaboration between the two institutions is a major part of the vision for RAL’s new Chief Executive, Maseleganye Matji. Matji believes that a lot can be achieved through strategic partnership all the road infrastructure role players.
The MOA will see the CSIR supporting the RAL’s efforts to better manage, maintain and improve Limpopo’s road infrastructure. “As we said during the signing of the agreement in April, it is highly crucial for RAL to establish more of similar relationships in order to improve in relevant areas, including research, scientific, engineering and technical services which add value to various aspects of RAL’s business process”, said the visibly delighted Matji.
It is now time to get the ball rolling, he added. The institutions agreed to cooperate on matters of mutual interest including Road network planning, Road infrastructure management, construction, maintenance,
Traffic Engineering and Human capacity development in road traffic safety management.
Matji reiterated that another area that requires special focus is the investment in young people more especially those in science and engineering. “We are working on more strategic partnerships which will assist in the transfer of skills, development, innovative technologies and systems for supporting infrastructure delivery”, he commented.
