RAL appoints contractor for Salient Road D3278 Upgrade Project anticipated to create jobs and ease Traffic flow in Blouberg
Following the appointment of a contractor, Roads Agency Limpopo SOC Limited (RAL) will carry out a major upgrade on road D3278 between 2022 and 2023 in the Blouberg area of the Limpopo Province. RAL will upgrade the 10.4kms stretch of road from Blouberg Hospital to Buffelshoek Clinic within the Blouberg Local Municipality in the Capricorn District of the Limpopo Province.
The developments follow recent engagements between the Limpopo Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure (LDPWRI) and Blouberg communities about various roads that are in a dire state within the municipality’s jurisdiction. The poor state of road D3278 makes access to essential services for the villagers difficult and the LDPWRI, through RAL, hopes to make strides in the right direction starting with the rehabilitation of the said road. The road has been in an unfavorable condition making driving and movement unbearable. Residents have been finding it difficult to access essential services such as Blouberg Hospital and Buffelshoek Clinic amongst other facilities.
The contractor is expected to commence with upgrades once all the processes involving communities and other stakeholders are completed. The acclaimed flagship project is anticipated to be completed within a period of 18 months, it emanates from RAL’s strategy which seeks to reduce costs to build quality roads in an efficient way. Meanwhile it will also help communities to start up cooperatives where the entity will procure material to construct sections of the road as part of the Letsema Ditseleng initiative launched in 2021. Local labourers from the affected communities will be employed while the local Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) will be empowered.
The development of roads in the Blouberg area are a fulfilment of a promise made by Dr Namane Dickson Masemola, the Limpopo Provincial Government shareholder representative for Roads Agency Limpopo, during his visit to Blouberg in May 2022, together with RAL CEO, Mr. Gabriel Maluleke where he committed that the road infrastructure related concerns raised by the communities are a priority and will be addressed in phases. RAL will continue with its effective labour intensive methods to upgrade and rehabilitate the 10.4kms stretch on road D3278 in the Blouberg area.
Benefits of the constructed roads will include: ● Easy traffic flow facilitation ● Shorter travel distance ● Connection to Blouberg Hospital ● Connection to Buffelshoek Clinic ● Employment of local labourers ● Employment of local SMMEs ● The road will mainly give access to the Blouberg Hospital for Blouberg Communities.
